A writer of own compositions in the rhythm and blues genre, he played in central and north London and Home Counties for many years. Performing at ‘The Marquee, Waldorf Street’ and ‘Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s’ and ‘Frith Street, Soho’. He performed a single play on ‘The John Peel show, Radio 2’. He also supported ‘The Blues Band’ at Hatfield Poly and was ‘The Battle of the Bands winner’ at The Regal Theatre in Hitchin.
In a band called ‘Pulsar’ he ventured into the ‘heavy metal covers’ genre and also played a while with alter ego band ‘Spondoolicks’ performing his own compositions in the comedy/folk/skiffle genre also in central and north London and Home Counties.
He was also a member of ‘Tickled Pink’ again using his own compositions, this time new romantic style, playing in central and north London and Home Counties area. In the late 1980s he worked with ‘Doug Morter’, guitarist/vocals ex ‘Magna Carta’ and ‘Hunter Musket’ and The ‘Ashley Hutchin’s Albion Band’. During this time he was lucky enough to work with ‘Doug and Jerry Donohue’ from ‘Fairport Convention’ and ‘Fotheringay’ performing folk rock at local gigs in between their tours as ‘The Backroom Boys’.
As a member of ‘Doug Morter and Friends’, he toured ‘Denmark’. The ‘Friends’ were ‘Paul Burgess from 10CC’ on drums,’ Jason Scopes of The Fretz’ on lead guitar ‘Alan Pernell from The Rick Astley Band’ on keyboards.
Following a move to Oulton Broad he also enjoyed a brief spell with ‘Ron Sayer and Charlotte Joyce’ in the ‘Spider Murphy Band’ and then joined ‘Monkey Business’ playing rock covers in local venues. This band morphed into the rhythm and blues band ‘Feelgood Factor’ with ‘Paul Gillings’ featuring on harmonica. ‘Andy Guyton’s Quercus’ allowed him to play very loud rock covers at a motorcycle club festival! A first for Billy which was then followed by a completely different experience headlining ‘The Ely Country Music Festival’ with ‘Out of the Ashes’. He then joined ‘Rockin’Relics’ with his long term drummer friend ‘Andy Marr’ playing rock ‘n’ roll covers before fulfilling a lifelong love of jazz with the ‘Omega Jazz Quartet’ playing a regular gig in Southwold.
After many bands and even more gigs Billy joins ‘Zingaro Blue’ as Bassist and final member of the gang :)
